Wigton Baths Trust are delighted to have been awarded a grant from players of People’s Postcode Lottery to install a UV water sanitising unit and replace all the lighting throughout the Baths with LED lighting.
Wigton Baths in North Allerdale is a community Pool run by a Charitable Trust consisting of 10 volunteers who now own and manage the Pool. The Trust has undertaken a programme of initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint and save on its fuel bills.
The Trust has been mindful of the history of serious pollution when Chlorine from the Baths leaked into the freshwater stream and killed fish. The Trust wants to follow good ecological practice to ensure it minimises the chance of any future pollution.
Installing UV means that the swimmers in the Baths will benefit from swimming in a pool with a significantly less chlorinated environment. Dawn, retired Police officer, says “ I am very pleased at this news – especially as a long time sufferer of chorine effects!”
The UV unit will also reduce the damage done to the Edwardian Structure by chlorinated moist air.
Good lighting is essential for safety in the Pool and the use of LED will reduce energy consumption.
Wigton Baths Trust is extremely grateful and would like to thank all the players of People’s Postcode Lottery who have now made this project possible.
